Eckhard Szimba is a Senior Researcher and Group Leader at the Institute of Economics, Chair of Network Economics, at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. His research focuses on transport economics, European‑scale passenger transport demand modelling, and the socio‑economic assessment of transport policies (e.g., infrastructure investments) and mobility concepts. His portfolio further includes the development of appraisal methodologies, transport policy assessment tools, and serious games. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Technical University of Karlsruhe. His doctoral thesis on interdependency analysis of European transport infrastructure projects was awarded the European Friedrich List-Prize 2007. He is also responsible for international collaborations and projects at the KIT Mobility Systems Center and is regularly appointed as an independent expert by various EU and national institutions.
