Jean Tirole is professor of economics at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and works in industrial organization, regulation, game theory, banking and currency crises, and psychology-based economics. He is honorary chairman and founder of the J.J. Laffont -TSE Foundation and of the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST). He is also a member of Institut de France and holds a visiting position at MIT. Jean Tirole was president of the Econometric Society in 1998 and of the European Economic Association in 2001. He received Doctorate Honoris Causa degrees from 18 universities around the world and many scientific prizes, including the inaugural Yrjö Jahnsson prize of the European Economic Association in 1993, the 2007 CNRS gold medal, the inaugural BBVA award in economics in 2008, and the Nemmers prize in 2014. In 2014, Jean Tirole received the Nobel Prize in Economics "for his analysis of market power and regulation".
